CITY OF BEND

WHAT WAS THE CLIENT’S ASK?

Civic leadership wanted to directly address misconceptions about the crisis of houselessness and the variety of complex factors that cause people to experience it.

HouselessInDeschutes.org is designed to help members of our community grow in their understanding of what houselessness is, how it happens, who it affects, and what can be done to create safe and stable housing options for those experiencing housing insecurity

WHAT WAS THE CHALLENGE?

Housing insecurity is an issue that many people want to solve, but very few people understand.

Our society is rampant with misinformation regarding the crisis of houselessness. This misinformation – and the harmful stigmatizations that come with it – have become critical obstacles to progress.

WHAT SERVICES WERE PROVIDED?

In order to develop a website that could effectively counter misinformation with truth, our team hit the streets, took photos, interviewed the community, and wrote a thoughtful and thorough narrative that would tell the story of the housing crisis in Deschutes County. The site we created has become a pivotal resource for data-sharing, information, and mobilizing public engagement toward sustainable solutions.

Stakeholder Interviews, Houseless Community Member Interviews, Messaging Strategy, Content Strategy and Copy, Wireframing, PIT (Point-In-Time Count) Data Research, Copywriting, Graphic Design, and Website Development and UX Design.

WHAT’S THE IDEA THAT SPARKED SUCCESS?

From insecurity to sanctuary: we’re in pursuit of stable and secure housing for everyone.

With a clear articulation of how to coordinate efforts and funding between dozens of organizations and public agencies who are all working toward the same end goal - the City of Bend’s Emergency Houslessness Task Force (also known as HouselessInDeschutes.org) is well-equipped to address the local houselessness crisis with future-forward thinking and a solutions-focused strategic plan.
